Pop Up: Welcome! Before you continue, take a moment to imagine that you are given the opportunity to write a brand new constitution. What does it include? What rights does it protect? What systems does it outline? What guarantees does it make? As you visit this site, we invite you to be bold, visionary, and to envision a better world.
Visionary Exercise: Take two minutes to reflect and record your answers to the following questions. As you do this, try to create an image or feeling about what these things could look or feel like if they were realized.
- What are some of the values you think a society should be constructed around?
- What do you think are the fundamental rights a human being is entitled to?
- Do you believe that nature (rivers, mountains, forests, etc) and animals should have rights? What might it be like if they did?
- What might it be like if a diverse, representative group of people had written the Constitution?
For Elementary and Jr. High School Students: Imagine you woke up tomorrow and we had to start from scratch to build the US Constitution, and you were assigned to write it and gather other people to help you.
- Who would you ask to help you write the Constitution?
- What rights would you want to include? What things should be guaranteed to all people?
- Do you have any ideas about how the government should be set up? Do you think it’s working well the way it is now?
- Imagine a perfect world. Describe it - how do people act? How do people get what they need? How do people feel? What do people do with their time?
- Do you think it’s possible for people to make big changes to the way our society works? Do you think we should try to make change?
